Celebrating Construction Safety Week 2021

Happy Construction Safety Week everyone!

At JR Merit, we prioritize safety above all else every day. We work in complex and challenging environments, from operating production facilities to industrial plants to the heart of hydroelectric dams. This drives home the need and importance of our strict and detailed approach to safety. We adapt and evolve with the latest tools and technologies so that in all things, we can protect workers, protect the environment, protect our customers, and protect our company.

In celebration of Construction Safety Week’s industry-wide focus on safety, we’d like to share one of our latest safety innovations—using 3M’s new SecureFit safety helmets. JR Merit went all in with early adoption of these new helmets for all our teams because of the helmet’s safety benefits.

JR Merit teams are using the SecureFit helmets on all of our jobs, which include challenging locations, such as this one under a potash ship loading pier, where having our helmets reliably stay put matters a lot!

Integrated Eye Protection: This new helmet has eye protection attached that flips down, making it easy to ensure we have all our PPE at the ready.

Secure Strap: We work in a lot of tight spaces, at heights, and over water. The helmet’s security strap limits the chances of someone’s helmet getting knocked off of their head. It’s a way to “engineer out” the potential hazard of a dropped object. We don’t always think that our own safety gear could be a safety/environmental hazard, but a dropped helmet is definitely a hazard. When we are working in and over water, nothing is to get in the water. Limiting “drops” is one of our key safety measures because we do so much over-water work.

Multiple Adapter Connections: The helmet has options for ear protection and visor protection. This makes it very versatile and adaptable so we can tailor our PPE to specific work activities with simple connection adapters on the sides of the helmet.

Comfort: Several of our team members have reported that these helmets are more comfortable than traditional construction helmets. That’s a big deal when you’re wearing a helmet all day everyday on the job.

A secure, well-fitting, and comfortable helmet goes a long way to making a better and safer project experience.

In the spirit of Construction Safety Week’s mission to “strengthen our industry’s safety culture and performance by sharing best practices, tools and resources, we’d love to hear from our industry colleagues about your latest and greatest safety innovations as well. Together, we will create and promote a culture of safety for all of us. We are stronger and safer together.
